Tree of Life Society
The Tree of Life is the emblem of JCF, chosen to symbolize the power of philanthropy to support our Jewish communal life, from generation to generation.
Just as JCF supports the life of our community, the daily work of JCF would not be possible without the annual operating support of these generous donors, whom we recognize in the following categories of our Tree of Life Society.
Carob Tree
The very essence of the Jewish Community Foundation is exemplified by the ancient parable of Honi and the carob tree:
One day, Honi came upon a man planting a carob tree. Honi asked the man, “How long will it take for this tree to bear fruit?” The man replied, “Seventy years.” Honi then asked, “And do you think you will live another seventy years and eat the fruit of this tree?” The man answered, “Perhaps not. But I was born into a world planted with many carob trees by my father and grandfather. Just as they planted for me, I plant for my children and grandchildren, so they can eat the fruit of these trees.”
Annual support for the Jewish Community Foundation $18,000 or more
Olive Tree
The olive tree can live more than a thousand years, offering a source of shelter, sustenance and light for tens of generations. Since the time of Noah, the olive leaf has been a symbol of hope and the restoration of a peaceful world.
Annual support for the Jewish Community Foundation $7,200 to $17,999
Molly Blank Fund
Cedar Tree
For more than 400 years, cedar timbers supported the structure of Jerusalem’s First Temple, and cedar panels lined its interior walls.
