I was motivated to leave an endowment to the Jewish Community Foundation because of many of my life experiences.
My first remembrance of Jews taking care of Jews was when my Grandfather, after World War II, brought several European Jewish refugees to the U.S.A. and helped them resettle.
I saw both my Grandmother, who broke her hip in her late 80’s, and her older brother decide to live in a Jewish “Old Folks’ Home,” which the Jewish Federation helped to fund. They both were very happy and active there.
I went to Israel on vacation when I was 23 and stayed there for 6 1/2 years. I saw how the money we donate annually to Federation helped to bring and resettle families from Eastern Europe and North African countries.
