Honi the Circle Maker was walking along the road and encountered an elderly man planting a carob tree. Honi stopped to ask the man how long it would be before the tree would bear fruit. The old man responded, “70 years.”
“You must realize that you will not live long enough to enjoy that fruit,” Honi said. The man replied, “That is true. However, I so appreciate the fruit from trees planted by my father and grandfather. I am planting this tree so that my children and grandchildren will have fruit to enjoy.”
Our parents and grandparents planted trees for us. Now it is our turn to set the example. Our gift to the Jewish Community Foundation will help ensure a vibrant Jewish community for our children’s and grandchildren’s futures.
