L’Dor V’Dor – From Generation to Generation – Carry on TIKUN OLAM
We wish to leave our traces
In those beautiful, curious, young faces
Of our three sons in whom
We continue to watch in awe at their beginning bloom.
In what ways can we leave our mark?
Not by a “shot in the dark.”
But by a thought-out, thoughtful effort and plan
To our children, our loved ones, and the rest of our people’s clan.
To their children and our traditions that carry goodness ahead
From this day forward, we bring promise of spiritual bread.
Again, how can we know we made a difference, how will the future know we were here?
We know we are such a small speck in the unknown continuum, of that we are clear.
But with each of us leaving that mark
And hope our offspring continue to embark
That our efforts were worthy
We show we care.
Our intentions demonstrated, our actions remain there.
So today by this pen we sign a book with ink that will fade
To add the seal that our gift of the future which will be made.
With that said, here we share our ideas, hopes and our guidance for the generations after us:
Remember to lift up the head of the grieving.
Give the gift of the touch of your hand.
Add Tzedakah to the box of giving.
And help our community hold its tight band.
Keep your mind clear, take a step back.
Give a thought ahead before you think to retreat or attack.
Use strategy, use forethought.
Be mindful, truly live each day, laugh at yourself when you trip when your “hypothetical” shoe gets caught.
Life will hand you its own trial.
You will not expect the rival.
But put on your brave face and make your way.
It is your day.
And then you will pass along your vision onto the next.
We know you can surpass any and all blessed test.
Work hard, be happy and love and play, too.
Find and keep your family close, love them with all that you can do.
Live the values of good, of acting on what is right,
And live the life you have with all your might.
