My parents have often told me that it is not good to have things come too easily in life. If you have to work hard for something, it will have more meaning for you. This has been true of my desire to fulfill the mitzvah of tzedakah and also of my desire to excel in my academic studies.
Because I know that it can be a great challenge for young children to learn the basics of reading, I have decided to establish an endowment that will provide funding for programs that will help underprivileged children achieve greater levels of literacy. I hope that someday, these children can know the same feeling of achievement I have known, both through their success in school, and the ability to make a difference in the lives of others.
