“I shall pass this way but once
Therefore, any good I may do
Any kindness I may show
Let me do it now
For I may not pass this way again”
This was the mantra my father, Max Markovitz, lived by. Shortly after the Markovitz family moved to Phoenix, my father became involved with two Jewish organizations at their inception – The Phoenix Jewish Community Kivel Nursing Home, now the Kivel Campus of Care, and the Phoenix Jewish Free Loan Association, now the Jewish Free Loan.
My father helped plant the seed for these two fine Jewish charities. Now it’s time for me to step up, Irvin “Herb” Markovitz, to nourish the soil, so that the future citizens of Arizona may enjoy the fruits of our philanthropy.
“He is like a tree planted by rivers of water, which brings forth its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither whatever he does, prospers.” Psalm 1:3
