In Memory of Ilona and Dezso Peter, by their niece, Eva Hubschman, Ph.D.
My uncle and aunt, Dezso and Ilona Peter were born in the late 1800’s in Hungary and suffered through World War I and II in Europe. Their lives mirrored the fate of many Jews of the period as they wandered the world until they found a haven in Switzerland to live out the last years of their life. Throughout life’s hardships, Dezso supported both his and Ila’s families. They are buried together in a hilltop cemetery overlooking Zurich.
Although they never had children, Dezo and Ilona’s memory lives on through the Dezso and Ilona Peter Memorial Scholarship Fund, for which he left funds, enabling needy and deserving students to pursue their medical studies at Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv.
